Kat joined us in the Workshop to talk about what’s on her mind.
She started the pod with her HTOTD (Hot Take of the Day - she was full of acronyms).
That hot take:
Bring your BEST self to work and not your WHOLE self
Her point was that it’s a strength to be able to curate your best self and bring it to your colleagues and work
If you can be introspective and self-aware enough to know how best to do that curation - you can bring some serious heat to your work and relationships with your colleagues.
Andrew explains how he’s struggled with this, by segmenting his personality over the years and becoming disconnected from his best self. Kat very beautifully gives her perspective:
Murray then asks Kat to give us an example of a situation where bringing her whole self to work would be a negative or distract her from doing her best work.
She gives a deeply personal example that highlights how tough it can be but how by setting a boundary and choosing how she wants to perform at work, she’s able to be her best in both her work and personal life.
It’s about separating distractions out while keeping the best bits of your personality in. Hard to do.
This led to a conversation around how it’s much easier to accomplish this when you feel psychologically supported at work and when you feel seen at work - especially since the pandemic and working from home became so standard.

That convo inspired Andrew to plug one of his favorite business books - Let My People Go Surfing by Yvon Chouinard (the founder of Patagonia). The book touches on both of those points, how as a leader you can create an environment and culture that supports your employees and the lives they want to live.
Kat was an amazing guest and I’m sure we will find ways to get her back in the workshop with us. Thanks Kat!
